 Location

Guimarães is a town 40 Km north to the Oporto's International Airport and 20 Km east from Braga which is the capital of Minho's region.

Guimarães is one of the oldest towns of Portugal, having been the first capital of the kingdom of Portugal, in the 12th century. The historical center is full of ancient monuments.

Guimarães has been chosen as Cultural Capital of the Portuguese Speaking Countries during 1998.

Citânia de Briteiros is a pre-roman village 10 Km away. The Peneda-Gerês National Park is 20 Km to the north and offers outstanding landscapes to those willing to walk in the middle of preserved wild forests.

The Campus of Azurém is one of the campus of the University of Minho and offers excellent conditions for the organisation of scientific events. As a matter of fact, it has an auditorium with 500 seats, and several lecture rooms able to accommodate 200 people each.

  •  Travel to Guimarães
There are several ways to get to Guimarães, being by car the best one.See the motorway map below:

    If you arrive by plane:
Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is situated about 35 km from Guimarães.

Taxis to Guimarães - There are Airport Taxis available just outside the airport terminal. You should expect 12.000 PTE in taxi fares to Guimarães.
There are also trains and buses from Porto to Braga and Guimarães. Please find the schedules at the following sites:

  • Rede Nacional de Expressos (bus)
  • Portuguese Railways
  •  Oral and Poster Presentations

More than 480 abstracts have been submitted!

The programme will consist of oral and poster presentations, round table and plenary lectures. The Scientific Committee was responsible for the selection of Abstracts for inclusion in the Symposium. A limited number of Abstracts were selected for oral presentation.

    Oral Presentations

The following facilities will be available to support the presentation of your work: slide and overhead projectors and data-shows.

    Poster Presentations

Posters should not exceed 90 cm in width and 120 cm in height. Posters will be attached to the boards using double scoth tape, provided by the Organisation.

Posters will have to be attached at 9:00 hours each day, from 13th to 15th of July. The presence of one of the authors is required between 13:30 hours to 14:30 hours. The poster removal will have to be done before 19:00 hours.

One hour sessions of poster discussion will be held, daily at 17:30 hours, therefore we invite you to bring 2/3 transparencies to support the discussion of your work.

    Publication

The number of selected abstracts to be presented as extended oral communications was so great, that there is no more the possibility of publication of full papers.

The abstracts will be published as symposium proceedings, which will be handed to participants. It is expected and required for publication that for each abstract at least one author will register for the meeting. If there are no co-authors registered, and a single author is going to make more than one presentation, there is an extra charge of 5000 PTE which will be applied for each additional presentation.

    Official Languages

The Congress involves many English speaking delegates. Therefore the use of English is strongly recommended. However, both Portuguese and Spanish are acceptable. In the latter case, authors are invited to bring transparencies or slides written in English.

    Symposium Programme

The provisional programme is already available. Thematic parallel sessions concerning extended and short oral communications on specific subjects will be held everyday. A full description of each of the days programmes may be found in the following:
